Assignment Notes ~ Home Page
Notice the picture that's on the home page? That needs to be something creative that represents YOU (not just English class). It could be a jpg of artwork that you have created and are really proud of, or a youtube video of a song you performed/wrote, or a picture of you playing lacrosse, or water polo, or piano, or on immersion, or doing service learning that really impacted you. Whatever it is, it needs to showcase you.
Now, let's talk about the template. Pick one that you love. This website was built using Weebly, but you are welcome to use Wix or Wordpress instead. Pick a template that you think looks good and will help to highlight your personality. Not into wooden desks and old books? Don't pick this template. That may be your teacher, but might not be you. Remember that design is critical for delivering the message. It's part of the whole picture.
At the top of the site, you'll see that I've created five tabs. I want you to have each of these pages, even if a few of them are blank. You are required to complete the home/landing page, the "about" page, and the "humanities" page. Each page contains its own assignments. Use this site as your guide. The whole point of this project is to start you on something that could be beneficial in the future. It's a work in progress.
As far as scoring is concerned, here's the document we'll use to score your site together during our conference. Other, more specific, rubrics are embedded within each assignment.

Background and Rationale (in case you're curious)
First of all, what's a digital portfolio? It is a combination of a resume and a portfolio that showcases your best work. It gives your audience a stronger sense of who you are -- your interests, skills, passions, experiences, and expertise. In the real world, professionals use digital portfolios as their first introduction to a potential employer or future client. Google any contemporary author, artist, or self-employed person, and I bet you'll find a website dedicated to explaining who that person is, what his or her qualifications are, and what relevant work he or she has done.
My objective for you is to create the start of a digital portfolio in which you reflect on your learning in my class, but also introduce yourself more broadly than just an English student. Ideally, you will build out a site that you can add to over time, and that has space for your learning and thinking in the Humanities, STEM, fine arts, and service. Let's work on crafting a positive digital footprint, and using technology to reflect on your work and what it says about you.
